The Reawakening of Vancouver's Chinatown
Vancouver's Chinatown was for a while, a hotspot for tourists. It offered visitors a look into the stories of early Chinese Immigrants and to experience some of their culture. Unfortunately for the community, in the past few decades, tourist traffic has started to dwindle. With the opening of the Chinatown Storytelling Centre and help from the community, it has breathed new life into the area and helped recapture the hearts of tourists.

The Chinatown Storytelling Centre offers lots to see while visiting. Go through over 100 personal stories from Chinese Canadians told through kiosks, exhibits, and programming. Get a photo taken and digital postcard at the Yocho Chow Photo Studio. Enter the Pagoda Phone Booth and dial a number to hear the tales of some of the Chinese Immigrants firsthand experiences, some heartwarming, others heartbreaking.
“[The Chinatown Storytelling Centre is] a place where little-known stories are shared, and by piecing them together, we see the significant impact this community had on the future of Canada. It’s a big story, but one that isn’t particularly well known,”

Once you step outside of the Storytelling Centre, there's still lots to see! Nearby the centre is Dr. Sun Yat-sen Classical Chinese Garden, which has winding pathways and delicate foliage, along with some outdoor paintings and exhibits. If you're looking for a drink, check out the Chickadee bar; But don't miss out on the restaurant next door as they have mouth watering corn fritters! Juke Fried Chicken is a restaurant where you can find corn fritters and crisp-skinned fried chicken, along with other menu items.
